Managing Payment Methods and Invoices

A
Written by Andreas H

Your payment method is the card churn.io charges for your own subscription, and your invoices are the receipts for each of those charges. Both live in one place so you can keep your card up to date and download past invoices whenever you need them. This article covers where to find them, how to update your card, and what each invoice shows.

You'll find everything under Billing, which you can open from your profile menu in the sidebar (look for Billing or View plan details). The Billing tab shows your current plan, your payment method, and your invoices together.

Your payment method

The Payment method card shows the card currently on file: its brand, the last four digits, and the expiry date. A small status badge tells you at a glance whether the card is in good standing:

  • Active — the card is valid and not close to expiring.

  • Expiring soon — the card expires within the next 60 days. It's a good idea to update it before it lapses.

  • Expired — the card's expiry date has passed and needs to be replaced.

If you're on a free plan, no payment method card is shown because there's nothing to charge. If you've requested a custom plan, you'll see a note that no card is on file yet — we'll send a payment link before your first charge.

Updating your card

You can replace the card on file at any time. The new card you enter automatically becomes the default card used for your subscription charges.

Step 1: Open the update form

On the Payment method card, click Update card. A dialog titled Update card opens with a secure card-entry form.

Step 2: Enter your new card

Type your card number, expiry, and security code into the Add a payment method form, then click Save card. Your details are entered directly into a secure, encrypted payment field — churn.io never sees or stores your full card number.

Step 3: Confirm

Once the card is saved, it's set as your default payment method automatically and you'll see a confirmation. The dialog closes and the Payment method card refreshes to show your new card. If something goes wrong, the form tells you what to fix so you can try again.

⚠️ If a payment fails

If your most recent payment didn't go through, a red alert appears at the top of the Billing tab asking you to update your card to keep your subscription active. Click Update card in that alert and follow the same steps above to get back in good standing.

Your invoices

The Invoices section lists the receipts for your churn.io subscription charges, newest first. Each row shows:

  • Date — when the invoice was issued.

  • Billing period — the start and end dates the charge covers.

  • Amount — the total billed for that invoice.

  • StatusPaid, Open (awaiting payment), Void, Uncollectible, or Draft.

  • Payment method — the card brand and last four digits used for that charge.

  • Download — a button to open the invoice PDF.

If you haven't been charged yet, you'll see a message letting you know your first invoice will appear after your next billing date.

Downloading an invoice

To download an invoice, click the download icon in its row. The PDF opens in a new browser tab, where you can save or print it for your records.

If an invoice doesn't have a PDF available yet, the download icon for that row appears greyed out. This usually means the invoice is still being finalised — check back shortly.

💡 Loading older invoices

Invoices load a page at a time. If you have a long billing history, click Load more at the bottom of the list to reveal earlier invoices.

Keeping a valid card on file means your subscription renews without interruption, and your invoices give you a complete, downloadable record of every charge for your accounting.
