Creating a Discount Offer

A discount offer reduces the cost of the customer's next billing period as an incentive to stay. It is the most commonly used retention offer in Churn.io and works especially well when a customer's cancel reason is price-related.

How to create a discount offer

  1. Open your flow and go to the Offers step

  2. Click Add offer and select Discount

  3. Set the discount type: percentage off or fixed amount off

  4. Enter the discount value (for example, 30% or $10)

  5. Set the duration: once, for a number of months, or forever

  6. Write the offer headline and description the customer will see

  7. Set the targeting: which cancel reason or audience condition should trigger this offer

Writing effective discount offer copy

The headline is the first thing a customer reads. Make it clear and specific:

  • Good: "Stay for 30% off your next three months"

  • Weaker: "Special offer just for you"

The description should reinforce the value they will lose by leaving and make it easy to say yes.

⚠️ Churn.io does not apply the discount automatically

When a customer accepts a discount offer, Churn.io sends an acceptance event to your system. Your backend or payment processor integration is responsible for actually applying the coupon or discount. You configure how this works in the Flow Behavior section.

πŸ’‘ Targeting tip

For maximum impact, target your discount offer specifically to customers who selected "Too expensive" as their cancel reason, rather than showing it to everyone. This prevents giving away discounts to customers who would have stayed anyway.
